Update, 13 July 2026: Plovdiv and Varna have since been eliminated. Sofia and Burgas are the two remaining candidates - read the latest.

Bulgarian National Television (BNT) officially launched the Eurovision 2027 host city bidding process on 8 June 2026, issuing requirements and technical specifications to the four candidate cities: Sofia, Plovdiv, Varna and Burgas.

The decision - made jointly by BNT and the European Broadcasting Union - is expected by the end of July 2026. The EBU's headline requirement is an indoor venue holding at least 10,000 spectators and available for roughly eight weeks around the contest.

Where the race stands

Only two venues clearly meet the capacity bar: Arena Sofia (~18,000) and Arena Burgas (~15,000). Plovdiv's Kolodruma (~7,500) and Varna's Palace of Culture and Sports (~6,000) would need major modification. Our full comparison, including infrastructure and hotel capacity, is in the host city tracker.
