How we measure
Every sample is taken the same way: Booking.com in a private browser window, 10 to 16 May 2027, two adults, one room, prices in EUR with taxes. For each area we record how many properties are still bookable, the cheapest listing, and the median of the first 25 results in the default sort. Sofia is included as a control for a city with no Eurovision effect.
What happened to Burgas prices
Within hours of the 12 August announcement, Bulgarian press reported Burgas listings for 11 to 15 May at more than EUR 4,000 a night, and a city where 99% of the visible inventory for those dates was gone. Hotels in the centre started waiting lists.
That is the announcement-day panic, not the final price. In Liverpool, Malmö and Basel, contest-week prices fell by 40 to 60 percent within weeks, as hotels released blocked rooms and the resort coast opened its May inventory. Burgas has far more beds within 40 km than a Eurovision crowd needs. The Bed Index above is built to show you when that correction happens, once weekly sampling starts. Until then, the strategy is patience plus a refundable hedge.
Where to stay in Burgas
- City centre and Sea Garden: compact, walkable, right on the Black Sea, and the likely home of the Eurovision Village. Most hotels are here. About 10 minutes by taxi to the arena.
- Izgrev, near Arena Burgas: the arena sits in the northern part of the city, about 4 km from the seafront. Practical for show nights, quiet otherwise. Staying central and taking a short taxi or bus is usually the better trade.
- Pomorie (about 20 km north): a small spa town between the city and Sunny Beach, closer to the airport than either.
- Sunny Beach and Nessebar (33 to 35 km north): enormous resort capacity that only starts filling in June, plus a UNESCO-listed old town in Nessebar. The realistic overflow base once the city sells out.
- Sozopol (33 km south): the prettier, quieter base, with a cobbled old town on a peninsula. Around 35 to 45 minutes by bus or car.
All five zones, with travel times to the arena, are on the Arena Burgas page.
What accommodation should cost
Bulgaria is one of Europe's most affordable countries, which is good news after Basel and Vienna. Normal-season Burgas prices, and our estimate for contest week once the market settles:
| Type | Burgas, normal May | Eurovision week, likely |
|---|---|---|
| Hostel bed | EUR 12 to 20 | EUR 30 to 60 |
| Budget hotel or guesthouse | EUR 35 to 55 | EUR 80 to 180 |
| 3 to 4 star hotel | EUR 50 to 100 | EUR 150 to 300 |
| Apartment | EUR 40 to 80 | EUR 100 to 250 |
| 5 star hotel | EUR 100 to 200 | EUR 300 to 600 |
Current asking prices in the centre are far above the right-hand column. Treat these as the level to wait for, not as quotes. For how Bulgaria compares with past host cities, see the Cost Index.
Hotel or apartment?
Hotels win on flexibility: free cancellation is standard, which matters while tickets are not yet on sale. Apartments often win on price for groups of three or more and for week-long stays, but cancellation terms are stricter. Book the apartment only once you hold a ticket.
Rule of thumb: refundable hotel room now, apartment comparison after the ticket sale.
Booking checklist
- Dates: 9 to 16 May 2027 covers arrival before Semi-Final 1 and departure after the Grand Final. Trim later.
- Free cancellation only, with a deadline after the expected ticket sale (January 2027 at the earliest).
- Pay at property where possible, so no cash is locked in.
- Nothing non-refundable until you hold a ticket. The EBU's own FAQ gives the same advice.
- Re-check prices every two weeks. New inventory appears as hotels release blocks. The Bed Index above is built to do this for you weekly, once sampling starts.
