Arena Burgas

The hall that hosts Eurovision 2027, in 3D and in numbers: what it holds, what its roof can carry, and how long it takes to reach from anywhere you might stay.

Official ticket sale: Not open · Expected December 2026 to January 2027

Buildings, coastline, lakes and roads are real data from OpenStreetMap contributors (ODbL). Building heights are estimated where OpenStreetMap records none. The terrain is rendered flat, because this data set carries no elevation. Travel times are typical estimates to Arena Burgas; contest-week shuttles will be confirmed closer to May 2027.

How many people does Arena Burgas hold?

Up to 15,000 for a concert. That is the configuration Eurovision uses: seats on the floor plus a standing audience in front of the stage. The hall is smaller as a sports venue, because the floor is then a court rather than an auditorium.

ConfigurationCapacity
Concert (floor seating plus standing)15,000
Sport, telescopic stands extended6,100
Sport, stands retracted4,100

For the contest itself the figure may land a little lower: Burgas construction directorate told BNT the hall will hold 13,000 to 15,000, which is what a full Eurovision stage and its production space do to an arena floor. No official Eurovision capacity has been confirmed.

The number that decided the host city was the concert figure. The EBU asks for an indoor arena holding at least 10,000, available for roughly eight weeks around the contest. Arena Burgas clears that by half as much again, which is why it and Arena Sofia were the only two Bulgarian halls in serious contention. The full comparison is in the host city tracker.

No seating plan for Eurovision has been published, and no ticket categories have been set. When the EBU names them, the ticket tracker records it.

Can the roof carry the Eurovision rig?

This was the question Bulgarian media spent weeks on after the announcement, and it has an answer on the record. The arena's architect, Ivaylo Petkov, told BTA and bTV that the roof was designed to take around 300 tonnes of load, and that the ceiling will probably be painted black to meet the contest's requirement. The structure itself weighs 1,200 tonnes.

It matters more than it sounds. A Eurovision stage hangs almost everything from the roof: lighting rig, sound, video, the automation that moves set pieces during a three-minute song. A hall with a floor big enough but a roof that cannot carry the rig is not a Eurovision venue. Standing between 32 and 36 metres tall, Arena Burgas also has the headroom a modern production needs above the stage.

Where the arena is, and how to get there

Arena Burgas is at 79 Stefan Stambolov Blvd, Izgrev, 8008 Burgas, in the Izgrev district in the north of the city. It is not in the old town. Staying centrally puts you about 4 km away, which is a short ride rather than a walk, and the airport is closer to the arena than the city centre is.

The rings on the 3D view above are drawn at 10, 20 and 30 minutes from the arena door, so you can see at a glance which coastal towns are a realistic base and which mean a long ride home after a show that finishes near midnight. Getting to Bulgaria is a separate problem, covered in the travel guide.

Where to stay near the arena

Almost nobody stays in Izgrev, because it is a residential district with few hotels and good apartments. The realistic choice is between the centre, which is walkable and full of restaurants, and the resort coast, which has far more beds at May pre-season prices but adds 40 minutes each way.

Eurovision week at Arena Burgas

Nine shows run in the hall between 10 and 15 May 2027: two preview shows before each live broadcast, then the three that go out. Semi-Finals are on Tuesday 11 and Thursday 13 May, the Grand Final on Saturday 15 May, all starting at 21:00 CEST, which is 22:00 locally. The full calendar has every date, and the Sea Garden is the likely home of the Eurovision Village, four kilometres away on the seafront. More on the city itself in the Burgas guide.
